The Wealthy Advisers Club, the largest protection and mortgage adviser training community in the UK with over 2,300 members, has donated a fully funded £997 place at its inaugural Digital Detox Retreat to the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC), giving one person from across the financial services community the opportunity to step away, reset and invest in their wellbeing.

Taking place from Friday 18 September to Sunday 20 September at an exclusive private venue in the Peak District, the retreat has been created to give attendees the opportunity to properly disconnect from the demands of work, technology and everyday life.

It is not a business conference, sales event or networking weekend. There will be no sales training, lead-generation workshops or pressure to talk about business. Instead, the weekend is designed to create space to think, reflect and recharge, with all activities entirely optional.

The retreat will be facilitated by Leo Oppenheim, an expert in breathwork, cold-water therapy, movement and wellbeing, with attendees able to participate in guided breathwork, meditation, yoga and movement, cold-water immersion, sound therapy, Yoga Nidra, nature walks and personal reflection sessions.

The fully funded place includes two nights' accommodation, all meals prepared by a private chef, access to all activities and full facilitation throughout the weekend.

An opportunity to pause before reaching breaking point

MIMHC is inviting people working across the mortgage, protection and wider financial services community to apply for the complimentary place.

The initiative is deliberately not about identifying who is struggling the most.

Applicants will not be asked to disclose medical information, a diagnosis or deeply personal circumstances. Instead, they will simply be invited to explain why taking a weekend to step away, reset and invest in their wellbeing could make a difference to them right now, and what they would hope to take away from the experience.

Applications will be independently assessed by a small judging panel comprising Terry Blackburn and representatives of MIMHC, using consistent criteria focused on the potential positive impact of the opportunity and its alignment with the purpose of the retreat.

Applications close at midnight on 31st August.

Jason Berry, Co-Founder of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC), said: “There's a really important message behind Terry's incredibly generous offer.

“Looking after our wellbeing shouldn't begin when we've already reached breaking point. Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is recognise that we need to pause, create some space and properly switch off before stress becomes unmanageable.

“People across our industry spend enormous amounts of time looking after their businesses, their clients, their colleagues and their families, but don't always give themselves the same attention.

“This weekend offers someone the opportunity to do exactly that – to disconnect, reflect and invest some genuine time in themselves.

“We're enormously grateful to Terry for donating the place and, importantly, for recognising that sustainable success and personal wellbeing should go hand in hand.”

Terry Blackburn, founder of The Wealthy Advisers Club added: “Having spent years building and exiting businesses, mentoring thousands of advisers and working closely with brokers across the UK every week, I've seen first-hand just how demanding this industry can be.

“Long hours, constant client expectations, regulatory pressures, targets and the responsibility of helping families make major financial decisions can all take their toll.

“Earlier this year I attended a retreat with Leo Oppenheim and I came away feeling incredibly clear-headed, focused and de-stressed. It made me realise how valuable it can be to properly step away from everything for a period of time.

“I've seen too many great advisers become overwhelmed and overworked, and many people quietly struggle with stress without talking about it. While our industry has plenty of conversations about sales, growth and performance, we have far fewer conversations about protecting the people behind those businesses.

“That's why I approached Jason and MIMHC.

“This is the first retreat we've organised through The Wealthy Advisers Club and I hope it encourages more people in our industry to recognise that taking time out isn't a sign that something has gone wrong.

“Sometimes it's simply a sensible investment in yourself. I'm delighted that, through MIMHC, we're able to give someone that opportunity.”
