The Moneybox Lifetime ISA has helped first-time buyers purchase over £67.5 billion worth of property in towns and cities across the UK. Moneybox customers alone have saved more than £3.2bn towards their home deposit with the help of a LISA, with new insights pointing towards a LISA-enabled house purchase in almost every parliamentary constituency.

HMRC data shows the LISA has been used by over 417,000 people since it was first launched in 2017 to purchase their first home. These stats come at a time when regulators and policymakers are questioning the ongoing success of the LISA and debating replacing it with a new First Time Buyer ISA at the upcoming budget.

Across the UK, first-time buyers using a LISA have bought homes worth an average of £266,758 since launch. Queen’s Park and Maida Vale recorded the highest average property value of any constituency, at £398,765.

Insights from Moneybox indicate just how much the LISA has established itself as an indispensable tool for those saving for a deposit by offering a 25% government bonus of up to £1,000 every tax year.

The top three constituencies for the total number of house purchases enabled by the Moneybox LISA are all in Bristol, with Bristol East (1,364), Bristol North East (1,198), and Bristol South (1,123). With the top five being rounded out by Didcot and Wantage (996) and Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard (980).

Forecasting from Moneybox shows the Lifetime ISA is set to unlock 1 million first-time buyer purchases by 2036. Moneybox’s own data also shows the top constituencies for current active LISA savers, which are Salford (7,320), Greenwich and Woolwich (5,405), and Vauxhall and Camberwell Green (5,217).

LISA-enabled purchases support first-time buyers across the UK, including an estimated £94 million worth of homes bought in the Prime Minister’s constituency of Makerfield and £16 million worth in the Chancellor’s constituency of Rawmarsh and Conisbrough. The LISA has also become a useful revenue generator for the Treasury: a past study by CBI Economics found that, for every £1 the Government spends on the LISA, it recoups £1.45.

Brian Byrnes, Director of Personal Finance at Moneybox said: “First-time buyers are facing some of the toughest buying conditions in a generation. Against that backdrop, the Lifetime ISA is a vital source of support: in 2025, a Moneybox customer used one to buy their first home every 10 minutes.

“Our data shows the difference the 25% government bonus can make, particularly for those who cannot rely on the bank of mum and dad to bridge the deposit gap. It is helping people turn long-term saving into a realistic route to home ownership.”

Brian Byrnes continued: “The Lifetime ISA has been helping first-time buyers for almost a decade, and it is working. It needs targeted improvements — including to the withdrawal penalty and house-price cap — but these changes can be made now for the people already relying on it.

“We should not replace a product that is already helping people buy a home every 10 minutes with a new first-time buyer ISA, adding further complexity for savers. Nor should people already relying on the Lifetime ISA have to wait until 2028 for much-needed improvements to the product.”
