Hanley Economic Building Society has appointed Jeremy Wood as a Non-Executive Director.
Jeremy has spent his entire career in the banking and building society sector. He began his career with NatWest before moving into senior roles at Nationwide Building Society. He later served as Interim Chief Executive of One Savings Bank before being appointed Chief Executive of Dudley Building Society in 2012.
During his ten years at Dudley Building Society, Jeremy oversaw significant growth, improving profitability and almost doubling the Society's assets. He has long been a strong advocate of the mutual sector and the role that smaller building societies play in supporting borrowers whose circumstances may not fit a standard lending approach.
Since retiring from executive leadership, Jeremy has remained active within the sector. He is Chair of the Building Societies Association Pension Scheme, Chair of My Community Bank, one of the UK's largest credit unions, and a Trustee of a special educational needs school in Birmingham.
Mark Selby, CEO at Hanley Economic Building Society, said:
"Jeremy's appointment further strengthens the depth of experience and expertise on our Board at a time when the mutual sector continues to demonstrate its importance to customers and communities across the UK.
"Throughout his career, Jeremy has shown how smaller building societies can succeed by remaining clear about their purpose, staying close to their members and serving borrowers whose needs may not always fit a standard approach. Those principles closely align with our own values and ambitions, and I am looking forward to working with him as we continue to build on our strong foundations and support the Society's future growth.”
Jeremy Wood, Non-Executive Director at Hanley Economic Building Society, added:
"Building societies have an important role to play in ensuring borrowers can access the support and finance they need, particularly when larger lenders are unable to accommodate individual circumstances.
“Hanley has a strong reputation for putting customers first and maintaining a clear focus on the communities it serves. I am looking forward to joining the Board and working with colleagues across the Society to further strengthen its position within the mutual sector.”
