Colleagues from Yorkshire Building Society and Accord are celebrating raising over £1 million for the Society’s charity partner, The Felix Project & FareShare.
The team’s fundraising total tipped over the £1 million mark after more than 200 colleagues from across the Society, completed a challenging, yet unforgettable overnight climb of Mount Snowdon, Wales’ highest mountain.
Together, the participants raised an impressive £56,000 in support of Building Skills for the Future – an employability programme delivered by The Felix Project & FareShare, designed to help people gain the skills and confidence needed to secure long-term employment. This sum was added to previous donations from the Society, branch fundraising and bake sales, and sponsorship from previous challenges, such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks and Ilkley Cow and Calf Zipline to reach the seven-figure total.
FareShare merged with The Felix Project this year to form a bigger and more ambitious national food redistribution organisation with greater national impact. Through a network of regional partners, it redirects good quality food that would go to waste to over 8,000 local charities and community groups. These organisations not only provide food to those in need but also offer a range of essential support services, including helping people tackle the root causes of unemployment.
Yorkshire Building Society is partnered with The Felix Project & FareShare until Autumn 2026, helping fund vital programmes that support people into sustainable employment.
Susan Allen, chief executive of Yorkshire Building Society said: “We are incredibly proud to have reached our £1 million fundraising target. Colleagues across the organisation have shown outstanding commitment to this partnership, giving their time, energy and talents to help us achieve this milestone.
“The Snowdon challenge is a powerful example of that commitment in action. It brought colleagues together behind a shared purpose and pushed many beyond their comfort zones – an achievement that everyone involved should feel immensely proud of.
“Every pound raised will support The Felix Project and FareShare’s Building Skills for the Future programme, helping people build the skills and confidence they need to improve their circumstances and create brighter futures.”
Gareth Batty, Director of Network at The Felix Project & FareShare, added: “We’re incredibly thankful to everyone at Yorkshire Building Society who took part in this challenge. Their efforts and fundraising will directly support our employability programmes, helping people overcome barriers, gain valuable skills and move into sustainable work.
“This partnership is making a real difference, ensuring that surplus food is used to create meaningful opportunities within communities.”
The partnership funds Building Skills for the Future across the UK, a programme providing participants with work experience, qualifications, CV and interview coaching. It also supports an outreach programme offering free, face‑to‑face workshops to help people improve their financial wellbeing, job‑search skills and resilience. Together, these initiatives aim to support 2,500 people into better employment prospects.
